Location
Karvina is a city located in Moravian-Silesian region of the Czech Republic. Being one of the most important coal mining centers in the country, the town has a population of about 65 100 inhabitants. Karvina is situated 18 km east of Ostrava at the northern periphery of the foothills of the Beskydy Mountains in the Olse river valley. Apart of the northern border of the city is at the same time border with Poland.
