The vast majority of Czechs who are planning a winter holiday in the mountains are choosing Czech destinations. Just 3 percent are planning to go abroad.

The survey that was carried out by NMS Market Research has shown that 26 percent of the Czech population is planning a winter vacation in the mountains this year. Some 19 percent of all respondents plan to stay in the Czech Republic while another 4 percent of all the people are planning a combination of a domestic and foreign vacation.

Czechs mostly appreciate the short distance from their place of residence to the Czech mountains, the availability of their own accommodations and the absence of language barriers.

The possibility of communicating in the native language is particularly important for those who are standing on skis for the first time and are in the care of a ski school or professional instructor. Czechs also prefer domestic mountains to foreign ones due to the intimate atmosphere of a smaller ski resorts and the relatively favorable prices.

The most popular winter sport has always been alpine skiing, but among the younger population snowboarding and other winter sports are highly popular. Up to 30 percent of tourists during winter vacations in the mountains enjoy going out on cross-country skis.
